What makes this road special

The Morača River Canyon road connects Podgorica with Kolašin through the mountainous interior of Montenegro, following the Morača River into a deep limestone gorge. This Roudz route covers roughly 69 km of the old main road, passing through the dramatic Platije section where the road runs beneath steep rock walls, through numerous tunnels and alongside the river. With the newer A1 motorway providing an alternative route north, the canyon road remains the more scenic way to travel between Podgorica and Kolašin.

The Morača Canyon is a flowing drive shaped by the terrain rather than a sequence of tight mountain-pass hairpins. The road follows the river through sweeping bends, tunnels and narrower cliff-side sections, with substantial elevation gain as it travels from Podgorica toward Kolašin. Visibility changes frequently around rock faces and tunnel entrances, while regular traffic can interrupt the rhythm of the drive. The combination of continuous curves and dramatic canyon scenery makes the route rewarding without being exceptionally technical.
