What makes this road special

Sa Calobra's Ma-2141 is one of Mallorca's most distinctive mountain roads, descending from Coll dels Reis through the Serra de Tramuntana to the small coastal settlement of Sa Calobra. Over roughly 13 km, the road loses around 800 metres of elevation through a dense sequence of bends and hairpins. Its best-known feature is the Nus de sa Corbata, a 270-degree curve where the road loops around and passes beneath itself. Designed by engineer Antoni Parietti, the route is as notable for its unusual road engineering as for the rugged limestone landscape surrounding it.

Driving this road

Ma-2141 packs an unusually high concentration of corners into a short distance. The descent is almost continuous, moving between tight hairpins, short linking sections and larger sweeping bends as the road works its way through the mountains toward the coast. The narrow layout and limited visibility through some corners reward smooth, controlled driving rather than speed. Unlike longer Alpine passes, Sa Calobra delivers most of its technical character within little more than 12 km, making the road feel intense despite its relatively short length.

Ma-2141 is a dead-end road, so driving to Sa Calobra normally means returning along the same route. The road is popular with tourists, cyclists, coaches and other traffic, which can make passing and tighter bends slower during busy periods. Take particular care around blind corners and cyclists, and avoid stopping outside designated areas. Traffic can be heavy during peak visitor periods, so an earlier or quieter-time visit generally makes the drive more enjoyable.
